Meet Your Recruiter: Emily Peterson

Mar 23, 2020

Our goal at GetMed Staffing is to offer our travelers professional and personalized expertise from some of the best recruiters in the business. We take the time to get to know you so we can offer the best support and service throughout your assignment. We’d like you to get to know Emily, one of our expert recruiters.

What is your role at GetMed Staffing?

My role as a Recruiter is very all-encompassing. I love that I get to interact with so many travelers every single day with the goal of getting them on Team GetMed, regardless of where they are at in their travel career. In addition, I help with internal hiring, developing and implementing new processes, and serve as our resident medical staffing industry guru. My nickname in the office is Britannica!

Before working at GetMed Staffing, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

Truth be told, working in medical staffing is unusual AND interesting and keeps you on your toes!  One strange job I had when I was a teenager was working summers at one of my family’s convenience stores. My cousin, who was a few years older than me, worked the register, and I did everything else including:

Bagging ice

Picking up trash on the property

Cleaning up gas and oil spots in the parking lot

Making breakfast sandwiches

Stocking supplies

And more

You name it, I cleaned it, including the slushie machine!  Once a month, my cousin and I had to take apart the entire slushie machine, wash and disinfect the parts, clean in and around the machine, and put it all back together again. We didn’t always get put back together correctly, so when we would, we’d celebrate with a red or blue-stained high five when the machine turned on correctly. It was not a glamourous job by any means, but my dad taught me that no job is ever beneath you, and if you want something, you have to work for it.

What do you like most about GetMed Staffing?

I love the bonds that I have been able to create with my travelers. You can never take for granted the trust that travelers put in you, and GetMed’s core values are rooted in transparency and integrity (just like mine!) so I am able to support and help my travelers the very best I can because of that. It is also reassuring to know you are working alongside teammates who are all on the same page as you.  It is a very collaborative environment!

How would you describe GetMed Staffing in 3 words?

My second family!

What advice do you have for future travelers for GetMed Staffing?

Simply put, when you partner with GetMed, you are in VERY good hands! Don’t take my word for it; it will be proven through actions. Would also recommend always having open communication with your Recruiter.  That is key to a successful partnership!

What have you gained from working at GetMed Staffing?

Besides more pounds than I’d like to disclose?  =) In all seriousness, GetMed Staffing has given me the opportunity to become more immersed in the client/vendor and compliance side of the industry. This is a very complicated and everchanging job and being at GetMed has renewed and strengthened my passion for the industry which is something I am truly grateful for.

What do you do when you’re not working? (Hobbies, etc.)

I love to sleep in when I can, watch the latest and greatest on Netflix, Hulu, HBO, and/or Prime with my dog in my lap, enjoy a nice meal and/or glass of wine with friends, go to movies, and, most importantly, spend time with family. My husband coaches both of our sons’ baseball teams, and I am one of the assistant coaches, even though I only played 1 season of softball growing up. My job is to keep things organized in the dugout, so everyone knows their positions, batting order, put on and take off catcher’s gear, and make sure no one gets hurt.

What is an interesting fact that most people wouldn’t know about you?

I am an open book, so there’s not much that people don’t know. This past year, I donated my hair to Locks of Love for the first time!! My plan is to grow my hair out for the next year and a half and donate again.
